MEMPHIS, Tenn. (January 18, 2017) – Year-over-year average airfares at Memphis International Airport (MEM) have dropped for the 16th consecutive quarter, according to the Department of Transportation (DOT). The DOT’s third quarter 2016 average airfare report reflects an average airfare of $388.33 at MEM, a decline of $7.84 compared to 3rd quarter 2015.
The average airfare at MEM has now dropped by almost $160 (inflation-adjusted) since its peak in 2012.
Pace Cooper, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, said “Memphis International Airport is continuing to see a trend of passenger growth coupled with decreasing fares. More people can now afford to fly, and passengers have more options to and from Memphis. We will continue to work hard to add more destinations and more competition.”
