Touring the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital
Monday, April 30, 2018
During the last week of April, Orbis flew their Flying Eye Hospital into MEM and a few of us were lucky enough to score a tour of this state-of-the-art airborne medical teaching facility. The plane Orbis uses is a repurposed DC-10, donated by our friends at FedEx, and its mission is to heal and share medical and surgical knowledge with doctors around the world to help cure preventable blindness.
From Orbis: "The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital is unlike any plane you’ve seen before. A state-of-the-art teaching facility complete with operating room, classroom and recovery room - this amazing aircraft has been an example of the marriage between medicine and aviation since 1982."
