Big news has arrived at MEM -- literally!
Last month United Airlines said it will be adding larger aircraft to serve popular Memphis routes, and the first of those aircraft -- a beautiful B737-800 -- arrived today from Chicago. By April of next year, MEM will be up to four mainline departures a day to other popular United destinations including Denver and Houston.
Mainline aircraft that will be used include the Airbus A319 and A320, and Boeing B737-700, -800, and -900 variants seating up to 179 passengers.
United has increased its number of seats for Memphis flights by more than 70 percent since 2013: That's about 430 more seats -- the equivalent of nine regional jets -- per day.
